Every house is built upon a foundation.
Orlando Vineyard Community Church is built upon the foundation of our theology [how we think about God] and our values [the kinds of ideas and attitudes that we feel are important].
This portion of the site was created to give visitors and members a tour through the pillars of our faith.
We are currently engaged in a Church Fast and New Testament Challenge
January 1, 2009 to February 9, 2008 (40 days)
For the first 40 days of 2009, we are challenging one another to grow in our relationship with Christ by:
- Reading the entire New Testament - check the calendar page for reading plan
Please make it a point to: Study the Bible, Pray, Worship God, Practice transparency and honesty, Serve others, and get involved in a Growth Group.
- Taking daily communion (bread with wine/grape juice) with the God in remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice
We encourage each person to actively recognize, continually relate to, and commune with the living, resurrected Lord Jesus Christ, who reveals himself to us by His Holy Spirit.
- Engaging in a partial fast
This is similar but not the same as the fast of the prophet Daniel. (Daniel 10: 2-3) Daniel abstained from pleasant bread, meat, wine, and anointing his body. We encourage you to seek the Lord and walk in spiritual liberty during this time by choosing what you feel is best for you in your own relationship with God. Here are some suggestions and other forms of spiritual discipline that may be helpful as you make your decision about how to join with our church during this 21-day period:
- Fasting: You may choose to give up certain foods, certain meals, or food on certain days. We encourage those with medical conditions to submit to medical counsel regarding fasting.
- Silence: Shut off the noise: Radio, TV, Entertainment, Telephone, etc. and listen to God. (see Daniel 6:18: Note that King Darius abstained from entertainment.)
- Chastity: With agreement from spouse, choose to refrain from sex for an agreed upon period of time. (1 Corinthians 7:5)
- Frugality and Sacrifice: Cutting back on shopping, the use of credit cards, etc. and being willing to give up certain comforts.
During this time, we will also have more opportunities to pray together. Not only will Sunday morning prayer continue but we are also opening Friday nights to join together in prayer and intercession.
- Discernment and direction for the leadership of our church and our nation
- Integrity, purity, and spiritual unity in the universal church
- The fear of God and spiritual renewal in our nation
- The expectation and release of God’s gifts to His people
- Evangelism, outreach, and missions
- Church growth, favor, and personal victory
- Grace with our lease, financial abundance, and wise stewardship.
